CO2 recovery plant for Sektkellerei Schloss Affaltrach

A traditional market for CO2 recovery plants are breweries and producers of sparkling wine. The German Sektkellerei Schloss Affaltrach operates a Krones plant to liquefy and reuse carbon dioxide.
Schloss Affaltrach joins the sparkling wine producer Sektkellerei Schloss Affaltrach and the wine producer Schlosskellerei Affaltrach with a producer association of 250 wine growers and the Dr. Baumann and Freiherr von und zu Weiler vineyards comprising 17 hectares. One speciality of the sparkling wine producer is top-quality products made from selected Württemberg quality wines.
The German name "Sekt" for sparkling wine is linked with high quality standards. For "sparkling freshness", the basic wine must undergo a second fermentation and then age several months on the lees. This second fermentation takes place in the Affaltrach facility either in the bottle or in stainless steel tanks. For refilling the new and finished sparkling wines and for bottling, the systems must be pressurised so that the CO2 is under approximately 6 bar.
The required large quantities of CO2 can be provided with relatively small plants if the processes are well coordinated. The output of the fully automatic recovery plant in Affaltrach is 40 kg per hour. The technology of the systems for producing sparkling wine can be compared with that of systems for recovering CO2 from other alcoholic fermentation processes.  Depending on the quality requirements involved and the contents of special substances such as sulphuric compounds, Steinecker provides CO2 plants with additional cleaning steps for extracting, for example, sulphuric components from the gas by means of cold oxidation.
