High-bay warehouse – the solution for large capacities

Known for their "green" mountain farmer´s milk, Berchtesgadener Land positioned themselves as specialists for own brands. In 2005, the company processed approx. 190 million kg raw milk into different yoghurt, curd and fresh milk products.
The logistics area of the dairy plant needed to be extended to achieve larger production batches and to increase the efficiency of the picking processes.  The extension also included the upgrade of the existing IT system for warehouse and material flow. The product identification was to be automated to meet the requirements for batch traceability.
Design, project planning and new construction of an additional 5-aisle automated high-bay warehouse APW System C for raw materials, consumables and ultra high temperature products, and at a later project step, the conversion to the exclusive use of cooled products with the installation of separation walls and fast-moving gates increased the storage capacity by approximately 6,400 pallets. The connection of the existing systems with the new high-bay warehouse by means of an approx. 150 m long monorail system bridge and the supply of transport equipment for a new dispatch building for ultra high temperature products and raw materials and consumables created optimal transport conditions for storage and retrieval of the dairy products. The new line components were integrated in the existing IT structure with warehouse management system, material flow computer and respective visualisation.
